Photoshop Tutorial - Vibrant Funky Text

Digg! This Page

Introduction

In this tutorial you will learn how to make some vibrant funky text in Photoshop. I am using Photoshop CS3, however this tutorial works in CS2 too.

Step 1

Create a new document, around 800 by 600 pixels and fill the background with a light grey. (#CCCCCC)

Step 2

Now write something like your name or my name (Dale) in the font Porky's (Regular, 250pt, Smooth, #FFFFFF) - try and keep it four letters otherwise this tutorial will take you longer.

Step 3

Transform the layer (CTRL + T) to make it look like it's looking upwards at an angle.

Step 4

Change the blending options on the text layer. (Right click the text layer in the layer palette and select Blending Options)

Step 5

Now duplicate this layer, then hold down SHIFT and press Up, Up, Right, Right. (Your new text layer should have moved quite a bit)

Step 6

Duplicate the newly duplicated layer and move that again in the same way (Hold SHIFT and press Up, Up, Right, Right)

Step 7

Now duplicate this newly created duplicated layer 3 times, but this time don't move them. Your layers palette should look like this.

Step 8

Now rasterize the top 4 layers.

Step 9

Add a Color Overlay (Right Click Layer -> Blending Options -> Color Overlay) to the top most layer. Use the color red (#FF0000), then on the second layer down do the same but use Blue (#0000FF), then third use Yellow (#FFFF00), then finally forth use Green (#00FF00). On the bottom most layer (the first text layer we did - above the background layer) give that a color overlay of Black (#000000).

Step 10

Now hide all the layers except the top layer and use your eraser to get rid of everything except the first letter. Then on the second layer down erase everything except the second letter, third the third letter and forth the forth letter.

Step 11

Now show all the layers and you should have your Vibrant Funky Text. :D
