Hurricane Bill and the United Kingdom
24th Aug 2009 08:34amWell by the looks of it, if you're in Scotland then you may get a tad bit of windy weather on Wednesday 29th. The reason being is (at current) Hurricane Bill is roughly on the eastern sides of Canada and is heading towards the United Kingdom with Scotland being its main target point. Obviously this target point can / may change over the next 24-48-72 hours however it looks like a slight Tropical Depression (a cyclonic storm with a mean wind speed of 39mph and less for more than a minute) will hit Scotland on Wednesday. So expect wind and rain. I will try my hardest to keep you updated on how Hurricane Bill is going at the moment, but if Bill does reach Scotland then it'll just be named as Tropical Depression Bill. Oh and according to the charts, Bill is due to hit at around 2pm (however I'm not sure if that's 2pm GMT, BST or other??!)

Best 2 Google Earth Plugins for United States Weather
11th Jun 2009 05:25amWell after having a browse around I found these two plugins for Google Earth that seem to work really good and offer information from NWS (National Weather Service) and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atomospheric Administration).
Total US Doppler Radar
This plugin gives you a (near) live picture of the whole of the United States' doppler readings, which update every 5 minutes (600 seconds). I myself have modified mine though as the original doppler picture has loads of white space, so to change it to a better image that doesn't have the white space, then do the following:
1) Download the plugin.
2) Rename the '.kmz' file so it ends in '.kmz.zip'
3) Unzip it and you should have a file called 'doc.kml'
4) Right-click it and open it with "Word Pad"
5) Find:
<href>http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/Conus/RadarImg/latest.gif</href>
Replace with:
<href>http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/Conus/RadarImg/latest_radaronly.gif</href>
6) Save the file, open Google Earth and go "File -> Open" and locate the file... wait a few seconds and it's done!
» Download Plugin (Use the link "Get File: Google Earth")
NWS Warnings
This plugin shows the bounderies and locations of the severe weather that is currently happening.
1) Download the plugin.
2) Open Google Earth and go "File -> Open", locate the file and you're done!
» Download Plugin (Use the Real-Time NWS Warnings "Get KMZ File" button)
There is also a Blitzortung.org plugin too that keeps track of lightning in Europe, which is located here ("Get File: Google Earth").

Tornado Footage
24th Mar 2009 06:36amI have a huge fascination with the weather. Though what we get here in the United Kingdom is poo compared to the likes of the United States of America... with their 15+ inches of snow, deep freezes, massive heatwaves, hail stones the size of grapefruits, hurricanes, magnificent thunderstorms and lightning and of course tornadoes.
Not many people know though, the UK has more tornadoes than the USA - but that's only like that because that's measured by tornadoes by area. Though overall the USA have over 1,000 tornadoes a year! Ranging from just little funnels in the sky to full blown F5 tornadoes that cause total destruction wherever they go. Now because of my fascination, I decided to Google Video search "Tornado" and found a video that someone made of a F4 Tornado in Roanoke, Illinois on the 13th July 2004. Not only is he viewing it from (I believe) his house, but also he gets into a car and drives close to it... so close that he is in a Church car park and the tornado is in the Church Cemetry. He even gets out of his car too! Now I know that chasing them would be amazing... but getting out your car near one... hmmmm... that's just as bad as licking someones shingles... it's not a thing you do! (To make things worse though... he even has a cast on his leg!!)
Anyways, enough of my natter... here's the footage. (Oh ignore the first 43 seconds of the footage - it's just something from Psalms - ya know what the American's are like with their Christianity)
Roanoke, Illinois F4 Tornado (13th July 2004)
... erm... OK, I would embed the video... but by the looks of it... it's not embedible ... grrrr!

Thank You Europe
3rd Feb 2009 07:08amWell... what a day... thank you Eastern Europe for giving this to us. :) I ain't seen a snow fall like this in all my life! Finally! Though I would have had preferred this on Christmas Day.
Obviously loads of schools around the country were closed yesterday (Monday) and will be closed today (Tuesday) as a nice fresh band of snow is due to pass over the country. Obviously loads of extreme weather warnings are in force for the country.
I was shocked to hear too that this was the worst snow fall in 18 years, caused all the buses in London to stop (along with a mass load of the underground) - plus a few bus services around the country stopped too. Also with the lack of people at work today the economy has lost £1.2 billion (pounds) !!
Well roll on the next band of it ... though I was shocked to find a 5 and half foot snowman on the drive. However if you are out... then be careful on the roads and don't forget to take the usual stuff with you (i.e; charged mobile, shovel, de-icer, flask, etc..)

Snow!
5th Jan 2009 08:22amYay! Finally it's started snowing - yeah it's like after 2am but it has been kinda "trying" to snow most of the night but about 20 minutes ago, finally, it started to chuck it all down ... and in the good oldé fashioned way of wanting to advertise your site... I did it. Doodle in the snow! =] Woohoo! I've done 3 of my website and also I've wrote "lamppost" next to a lamppost and also I've wrote "drain" next to a drain. Pretty funky! =]

Snow
28th Oct 2008 18:58pmOooo... just checking the weather and we're supposed to be getting heavy snow from 3pm onwards and light snow from 6pm onwards... who knows if it'll happen... I do hope so though as it'll be nice to have a snowy downpour in October.
Edit: It started sleeting about an hour ago, but now it's slowly turning into snow... sadly though the floor is wet, so it won't settle (unless loads and loads of it came down quickly!)
Update: Well it did go from sleet to heavy snow, but didn't settle... sadly. Now it's all gone.

BBC Weather Revamp
27th Sep 2008 06:07amI love stuff about the weather and one site I usually check is BBC Weather (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/) and I ended up finding tonight that they're going to be revamping the weather website with the new look that the BBC main website has already got. The new design does look good, as it is very Web 2.0 (thats the name for a website that have stylish / new stuff on it like gradients, AJAX, ect...).

Hurricane Gustav
30th Aug 2008 21:33pmIf you're living in New Orleans, i'd probably say... get out. A full scale evacuation plan is set to be launch on Sunday, however thousands of people have already started leaving in fear as Gustav is still likely to strenghen from its current category 3 status and head in the same path as Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Wilma, which left New Orleans flooded.
If you are in the area and wish to ride out the storm, then good luck and be safe!
